Wendell: "Untitled" Intro by *ZomaS-M:iconZomaS-M:

Wendell

Untitled
by
Felix Haydn

I wonder if my life is a lie. I want it to be a lie.

Labels would call what I have perfection. Little children dream every day of becoming the celebrity that I am. Both men and women have thrown themselves at me. And I've made millions doing what I love.

Fame. Fortune. Success.

Perfection?

That has to be a lie. There's no such thing as perfection.

So I've had my doubts. And I've learned to make my life a lie.

You are reading the work of someone known as Felix Haydn. Though people have screamed that name at me for years, it is not, and it has never been, my name.

Lie Number One.

I am Wendell Carmen.

When one has an image to protect, they'll fight to protect it from everything. First starting out, I had to protect my work from myself. I do believe I was in denial about it all, really. Nobody in my life had ever said I was anything other than great. My parents doted on my sick little body when I was young, and fellow students always looked to me for all the answers.

Perfection?

Lie Number Two.

I always recognized the fucked up way people saw me. How could I have been perfect? I was sick. I was stupid. And their adoration made me fucking miserable. So I had to change things.

I created Felix Haydn at the start of my high school career. And he evolved. Felix was the perfection everybody wanted to see.

I just wanted to see myself.

I wanted to see Wendell.

And thanks to her, I finally did.

Perfection?

Lie Number Three.

So if I'm such a liar, how can you count on anything I say being the truth?

But believe me. If you never trust me again, believe me when I say this.

This is all true.

This has all happened.

I am Wendell Carmen. And I killed Jezebel Gibson.

The introduction to Wendell's story. He wrote it himself in his diary. It's a strange introduction, I know. But Wendell is a strange person.

*Quick note: I don't think that some profanity, mild violence, and a little sexuality necessitates the Mature Content Filter. If YOU think otherwise, then mine is not the gallery you should be visiting. This does NOT mean that I use these subjects a lot; only when needed or relevant to characterization or plot, and in my more extreme submissions the Mature Content Filter WILL be used. But it's life. Live it or get over it.

Okay, first off, and I know you're going to hate me for this - you need a mature content filter. It's the language, mostly. And I know younger kids come on here because I've been browsing here since middle school. And if you insist on keeping the filter off - at least put the disclaimer at the beginning of each entry because people usually read the comments last.

Otherwise, no comment. It was too brief to alter my other wonderful opinion of it. Plus, it just extended what you already told me.

If I thought the language was particularly offensive I would put the disclaimer first or the filter on. But my disclaimer itself tells people that I'm not giving them leeway when the profanity is this mild. The way I see it, this kind of language (cursing but still mild and not too offensive) makes it into PG-13 films, why not here? If it was any more offensive than yeah, I'd filter it. But it's never that bad with me, so my readers can take it or leave it. I just care less about age-appropriate language than you do. ^^;

I loooved this part. When he says "And thanks to her, I finally did." and how that flows into "And I killed Jezebel Gibson." really had me thinking and wanting to know more~!

I love how this substantiates his character, and it really forms a connection between the narrator and the reader. The name choice gives a nice impression.

Wonderful! I'd really appreciate it if you let me know how you feel about relating to these characters because it's actually pretty vital to how I develop their personalities. And I think you'll be the one to catch on to these things more than anyone else has so far.

hmm, let's see. right now im sort of being lame/lazy so i'll try my best :]

the way Wendell describes how he hated the attention he got--I can understand that. He gives just enough backstory for the audience to sympathize to some extent. It's a great way to begin understanding the character, something that pulls us along with him.

Sort of digressing from the subject--the way 'Lie Number One' transitions into 'Lie Number Two.' It's awesome. How I got that everyone adores him and praises him and junk, and then alluva sudden, you realize that's not really it. And I sort of connect with that, for my own reasons, heh.
